This morning as I prayed, the Lord showed me a picture (a vision in my mind’s eye) of a boy who had fallen asleep in his bed. His father came in to wake him, and put his hand on the boy’s shoulder to shake him, so that he would wake up for school (Kind of like Ward Cleaver trying to wake Wally and Beaver for school in the 1960’s American TV Show ‘Leave it to Beaver”). He was shaking his son, out of his love, so that he could wake up, have breakfast and learn. The boy didn’t want to wake up, of course. But it was the kindness of the father that caused him to shake his son to awaken him from his slumber. The father had good things for his child, if he would only wake up.

The Holy Spirit showed me that the sleeping boy was like much of the Church (all those born-again believers in Jesus Christ) in America. Many believers have grown weary in faith, tired and become spiritually sleepy or fallen asleep completely (in their faith).

I feel the Lord Jesus then led me to the following Bible passage to remind me, other believers and whole denominations of church groups in America, that the current ‘shaking’ in world events/the economy etc. brought about by the coronavirus pandemic… can turn out for our good (Romans 8:28) IF we (as individual believers) and corporately as the Church will WAKE UP to the whole truth of God’s Word, not just the parts that are ‘comfortable’ or ‘politically correct’ or that we ‘like’ within our cultural context. God’s Word is full of moral teaching that lead to us to good health, safety, healthy relationships and personal peace if we will only apply them to our lives. God has good things for those who wake up to the truth found in the Bible. My prayer for my heart (and the heart of the Church in my nation) is that we WAKE UP to the truth of God’s word, the WHOLE TRUTH and NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH*.

Ephesians 5:10-20 (NLT)
10 Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. 11 Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. 12 It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. 13 But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, 14 for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said,
“Awake, O sleeper,
rise up from the dead,
and Christ will give you light.”
15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. 18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

A ‘great awakening’ begins in individual hearts and lives. Will you pray with me that this shaking be a-WAKING for the Church ?
