I met Him in an instant, now He is healing me as
I walk with Him day by day…..
I came to know Jesus more and more, through reading His Word, spending quiet time with Him and through fellowship with other believers. He began to heal the broken places within my soul. That kind of healing wasn’t instantaneous, as my conversion had been. It is an on-going process called sanctification. In Luke 4:18 Jesus proclaimed Himself to be the Messiah that Isaiah prophesied. He said,
“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
Jesus said He was the one who heals broken hearts and breaks bondages. I can testify to the truth of those statements, through personal experience. Day by day, week-by-week, year-by-year, through the power of His beautiful Holy Spirit, Jesus began to change me and mend my broken heart, broken thinking, broken self-image and broken behavior.
I had attended a small local Bible College part-time when my daughters went to pre-school and elementary school. Later, I became a staff Pastor at our local Assemblies of God Church, on a part-time basis, and then taught as an adjunct at the same Bible College I had attended. While I was sharing God’s love with others, the Holy Spirit was changing me and mending the broken places in my life. It is sometimes a slow, painful process to be healed of the wounds that sin made in your heart. My thought-life, in particular, needed a lot of His love to overcome wrong thinking patterns, about myself, my relationships and about others. I am still a work in progress, but find that if I daily seek God’s help through reading His word and prayer, He is always there for me.
He is as close as a prayer.
