The HEALING Power of Prayer & Praise!

James 5:13-16New Living Translation (NLT) – The Power of Prayer

13 Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. 14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.

16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

Lila Logan’s Healing! (Lila is seated far left)

In the Winter of 2017, I was impressed by the Holy Spirit to begin inviting Christian friends, old and new, from across a variety of denominations, to my home to do two simple things: PRAY and  PRAISE. Having come through a lengthy season of great personal difficulty, I was reminded by God that, in spite of it all, I still had much to thank and praise Him for. So, I did. I began with a simple gathering at Christmas to sing carols and open my home for food and fellowship. A snow storm hindered travel for many, but I still enjoyed the opportunity to meet new neighbors and enjoy old friendships as we shared treats and carols. Over the next several months, I successively hosted two  more Prayer & Praise nights, which I intend to continue this Fall. I enjoyed the opportunity to connect with friends from a variety of churches and traditions, and we found sweet fellowship in the presence of the Holy Spirit together. Recently, I found out about a significant, medically documented physical healing that began at one of those meetings.  Here is how it happened.

Teresa Logan Schneider, who  has been my dear friend for many years, brought her mother Lila to my meeting. Teresa and I  met over 15 years ago, prior to my conversion to Christ, when she was a table host for the Alpha Course Bible study that I attended at a local Church at that time. We have remained friends over the years, and I had previously enjoyed spending time with her mother on several occasions.  This past winter, Lila happened to be visiting Teresa for the week in Minnesota. Teresa has a wonderful gift of worship, and I had invited her to lead worship that night, prior to our prayer time in my home.  We prayed for many needs. I specifically recall Lila’s request for prayer, because she had come in with an oxygen tank, which surprised me, as I had not seen her in some time. She and Teresa arrived early so that Teresa could set up her keyboard and due to the cumbersome nature of Lila’s oxygen tank. I recall that Lila  mentioned that she used the oxygen 24-7 and that she wanted prayer for healing. In addition to our prayer for other needs, our group gathered around Lila that night, prayed for her with laying on of hands and anointing her with oil, as directed in James 5:13-16. So, it is to God’s glory that I share the following  testimony, as written by Lila, of her healing. May it serve as a reminder to us all of the power of persistent prayer and obedience to the leading’s of the Holy Spirit!

P.S. Teresa and her husband Mark have since moved from the Twin Cities back to Iowa (sadly for me!) and she shared her mother’s testimony via email this week.

Lila Logan’s Healing Testimony:

Hi Teresa,I am just writing to ask you to thank all who participated on healing prayer for me when I was visiting you this winter.  I want them to know how God has been moving in my life with regard to His healing.

When I came to visit you I was on oxygen 24/7 because of a diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension and COPD.  After I received healing prayer on three different occasions during that visit, I believed the healing had occurred and received it into my spirit.

As you know, while I was still at your house there was great improvement in my ability to breathe without oxygen and maintain satisfactory blood oxygen levels for several hours at a time. This was clearly evidence of God’s healing touch, since I had required constant oxygen in order to maintain those levels before.

When I returned home I attended 24 pulmonary rehab sessions where I continued to maintain and improve my cardiopulmonary health.  Since my healing I continue to be off the oxygen nearly all the time except for nighttime and when I am doing aerobic exercise.

Recently, while I was having an awesome time of prayer and worship with Jesus, the Holy Spirit revealed to me the reason I didn’t experience the manifestation of total healing immediately. He needed to teach me the changes I need to make in health habits….both exercise and diet.  As I continue to follow His direction in these areas I see more and more manifestation of the healing.  It is clear to me that while He healed me, I have a responsibility to take care of this body He is restoring to health.

Thank you again to all who prayed for my healing and Thank you God for you wonderful Healing Power.

Note – the above testimony was written shortly after Lila Logan’s healing in January. The update below was written on 9/14/17. Lila Logan is 77 years old and lives in Mt. Pleasant, IA.

In July, I went for a complete cardiopulmonary checkup.  While I still show some evidence of COPD, the cardiac doctor released me from her care because the tests now show no evidence of pulmonary hypertension.  Also, there was improvement in my COPD tests.

When I think back nearly a year ago, I was barely able to walk to my mailbox even with oxygen.  Today, I am able to do all my normal daily activities with no oxygen and I am babysitting my 3 1/2 year old great granddaughter 5 days a week.  God is so Good.
